Kindergarten Highlights

Literacy:
Big book study : "Chicka, chicka, boom, boom!" Loads of fun practicing letter recognition and rhyme as the letters climb up the coconut tree. "School is Fun" pattern book with simple sentences students can read using picture cues.

Learning to recognize and write our names (upper case only to start, all others lower case) Sharing personal stories, journal writing.
Using a loud speaking voice when addressing the large group and the importance of good listening habits.

Music:
We are learning new songs with Mr. Leblanc and exploring musical instruments.

Science: Using our five senses to learn about things around us especially exploring real coconuts relating to our coconut tree big book. We shared our findings on a class chart.

We also made play dough and shared our ideas about the smell and feel of it at various stages.

Mathematics: Data Management

Sorting items based on physical attributes

Religion: Special Me
We are learning that God gave us many special gifts in order to learn about our environment and share with others around us, and that we are all special and unique!

News: Our meet the teachers night was well attended! Thanks to all of you that took the time to come, ask questions, see our new room and offer positive feedback. We also want to thank the parent council for organizing the food that was enjoyed by many!

We had our kick off assembly for house leagues and WOW! Thanks to the staff members who organized this, grade 8 leaders for helping and also the rock band for jamming with us in the gym! Ask your child what colour team s/he will be this year. Congratulations to: Charlie, Hailey, Sheryl, Ava, Jonathan and Maria for a good start in Kindergarten!
Thursday was a beautiful day for our Terry Fox walk. We enjoyed walking on our school track to help keep the Marathon of Hope alive and well in Windsor.
