Highlights Kindergarten April 2017
We have had so much fun enjoying the arrival of spring. We took a spring walk around our yard looking for signs of spring, taking pictures to build our spring word wall. We have loved our outdoor recesses, bike riding, climbing, bubble blowing and playing in the sand box.
Our big idea for April was "How do we care for our world?" In honour of Earth Day.
Literacy:
We learned about the importance of protecting endangered animals and our responsibility to all animals as we read "Panda Kindergarten" By: Joanne Ryder. We explored the results of one person doing one small thing to show care for the environment and how it can inspire others while studying the book "Someone Cared For A Flower" By: Laura Petoom. We learned to care for our world through recycling programs, planting trees and flowers, walking instead of driving, picking up litter, not wasting water and electricity, etc.
Mathematics:
Kindergarten students have been exploring patterns in our 100 chart and skip counting. Continue to count objects at home to build confidence and skills. Some students are able to skip count independently with items too.
Religion:
Mrs. Bellemore (our Rosary lady) came for a visit and prayed the rosary with our kindergarten class, the children love holding the rosary and leading us in prayer.
We have been sharing bible stories about Jesus's life on earth and the work He did as a teacher. The many miracles He performed reminds us of God's love for all people. We celebrated Holy Week and Easter at school with our "bunny brunch" and popped our kernels we collected for each and every good deed done during Lent. Thank you for your support at home.
Science:
We saw a rainbow in one of our stories and students were interested in how rainbows were made. Through exploration with prisms, reading books and drawing and painting, water and food colouring experiments we enjoyed recreating many rainbows. We learned the order of the colours through song, and use of ordinal numbers.
Thanks to all of the families who sold school lottery tickets, donated items for the prize baskets, and joined us for the annual pasta dinner. Your support is greatly appreciated!
