Have you seen this man?

Today in kindergarten we baked a gigantic gingerbread man. While we were outside for lunch recess he ran away but left some treats behind. Please keep an eye out on the weekend and let us know if you see him!

Math: Data Management
We are learning to collect information in graphs and asked our Kindergarten students how they eat their gingerbread cookie. Below is the information we collected. We analyzed the data and discovered that more kindergarten students bite the head first.

Special Visitor in Kindergarten

Santa stopped by to remind us about our special breakfast date next Tuesday!
Tonight is the Christmas open house at St. Gabriel starting at 6pm! Come on out to hear some special Christmas performances in the gym.

Safety Village

The Sk's had a great time at the Safety Village. They learned all about stranger danger, how to cross the road and when you should call 911. The children are encouraged to learn their phone number and address in case of any emergency.
Thank you for our parent volunteers who joined us.

November highlights from Kindergarten

Dramatic play area - pizza hut
Students had fun ordering, making, delivering...a variety of pizzas. We made real pizzas to share as a delicious end to our pizza fun!

Remembrance Day- we paused to remember to be thankful for our beautiful, peaceful country of Canada.

Math - Numeration. We explored a variety of math games, number recognition activities and lots of counting!

Social Justice
Can drive- thank you to all who donated cans for the needy! What a great start to the season of giving!
Milk bags- we continue to collect milk bags to be made into useful items for the people in Haiti. It takes more than 800 milk bags to make one sleeping mat so please continue collecting.
Christmas initiative- this year we are collecting new toys for Sparky's toy drive and toiletries for those in need. The children will recieve one raffle ticket per item to enter into a draw to win a gigantic teddy bear.

Block Play- A tremendous amount of learning takes place as children explore, build and have dramatic play with blocks! Cooperative play helps build so many social skills and is very valuable.

Thank you to all of the families who participated in our student-led conferences. We appreciate you taking the time to join us in our classroom and support your child's learning.

Paper airplanes- our students saw a paper airplane in one of our books and were eager to make their own. Thanks to Mrs. Ball who easily has folded a million planes! So much fun decorating, flying, and measuring their flights!

Colour mixing- we explored mixing primary colours to make secondary colours using finger paints.

Learning to be independent with outdoor clothing, and knowing when to ask for help. With the warm November we had we were quite shocked when a winter blast arrived! Students are encouraged to dress themselves each time and seek assistance only when necessary. Please allow extra time when getting ready at home to continue improving their dressing skills. We have so many wonderful helpers in our class that there is always someone to assist.

Wow winners! Our theme in November was Kindness in Kindergarten. Congratulations to our winners!

Many new stories, "Time to sleep", "Bear Can't Sleep", " A Poppy is to Remember", "Sweet Dreams", "Ten Apples Up On Top", "Fall Changes", "My Teacher Is A Monster", "Red Is Best", "Mix It Up", and a number of counting books.

Homework Corner:
Take time this busy holiday season to share the real meaning of Christmas with your child. Try to attend Mass during Advent as it helps children with the waiting and excitement of the birth of Christ.
Share special Christmas stories and traditions together.
Follow a recipe for a traditional Christmas favourite. Children love to help measure, stir, sample and share. They really are so proud when they have had a hand in making something special for the family.

Reminders:
Call in if your child will be absent.
Safety Village trip is Tuesday, December 8th
Breakfast with Santa will be Tuesday, December 15th.
Label all outdoor clothing with your child's name.
